Adonijah Ball1

     Adonijah Ball was born on 20 November 1778 at Athol, Worcester Co., MA.2 He was the son of Isaac Ball and Hannah Commings.1 Adonijah Ball married Hannah Perry on 5 December 1799 at Randolph, Orange Co., VT.3 Adonijah Ball married Anna Gaston.4 Adonijah Ball married Frances Bruce on 18 January 1832.4 Adonijah Ball died in March 1841 at Kaskaskia, Randolph Co., IL, at age 62.5,6 He was buried at Kaskaskia Cemetery, Kaskaskia, Randolph Co., IL.7
     Adonijah enlisted as a corporal in the 21st U.S. Infantry Regiment in Middlebury, Vermont on 9 February 1813. According to his military records, he was 5'10", blue-eyed, brown-haired, with a light complexion and a carpenter at the time of his enlistment. Adonijah participated in most of the major battles of the Canadian theatre, including the capture of York (now Toronto), the capture of Fort George and the Battle of Chrystler's Field in 1813, and the Battle of Chippewa, the Battle of Niagara (Lundy's Lane) and the Defense of Fort Erie in 1814. He was hospitalized in Buffalo, New York due to illness in August and September, 1814, later promoted to sergeant and discharged in Sackett's Harbour, New York on 24 May, 1815.4
