Wait Ball1

M, #22398, b. circa 1754, d. 13 September 1837
Wait Ball was born circa 1754 at CT. He was the son of Alling Ball and Anna (????)1 Wait Ball married (unknown) (????) circa 1775. Wait Ball married Rebecca Gorham, daughter of Shubael Gorham and Rebecca Hurlbut, on 14 February 1792 at Congregational Church, New Fairfield, Fairfield Co., CT.2 Wait Ball died on 13 September 1837 at Virgil, Cortland Co., NY. He was buried at Pioneer Cemetery, Virgil, Cortland Co., NY.2
Comment by DGB: I have seen a note that early DAR records show Wait Ball as having married before his marriage to Rebecca Gorham, but have not further details beyond the obvious timeline before and after the marriage to Rebecca Gorham. End of comment. An affidavit submitted by Wait's son Shubael Gorham Ball in 1849 states that Wait enlisted at the age of 23 years at New Fairfield, Connecticut into a company commanded by Captain Lemuel Benedict. An application for a Revolutionary War pension was filed sometime after Wait's death, probably by his second wife, Rebecca. The application was refused on the grounds that Wait's service as a teamster did not qualify him for a pension.2 "In 1798, James Bright, James Knapp, Bailey, John and James Glenny, and Wait Ball, came in and settled in different parts of the town." (Virgil NY.)3
