     Ephraim Rice was born on 20 February 1792 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.1 He was the son of Daniel Rice and Sarah Ball.1 Ephraim Rice married Virtue Johnson, daughter of Joab Johnson and Jemima Ball, on 11 September 1814 at Dover (Somerset), Windham Co., VT.1 Ephraim Rice died on 20 April 1859 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT, at age 67.1 He was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Somerset (now West Dover), Windham Co., VT.1
     He was a representative in the state legislature; town clerk for 25 years, and justice of the peace for 40 years at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.1 He was a United States custom house officer on the Canadian line under President Polk.1 Ephraim nearly lost his life by falling into the Connecticut River and was sinking when rescued by his son Chester Curtis Rice.1
