     Samuel Ebenezer Ball was born on 2 May 1824 at MA.1 He was the son of Samuel Kent Ball and Olive Nelson.2 Samuel Ebenezer Ball married Minerva McFarlin, daughter of Leven McFarlin and Mary Nicholson, on 30 September 1847.1 Samuel Ebenezer Ball died on 20 September 1880 at Low Point, Woodford Co., IL, at age 56.1
     He served in the Civil War and enlisted on 3 December 1863 at Ray, Franklin Co., IN. His Civil War record included: As part of Company D, 123 Regiment, he fought at Tater Hill, Buzzard Roost, Resacca, Lost Mountain, Altoona, Kenesaw Mountain, Decatur, Atlanta, and Lovejoy Station, Georgia, and Nashville, Tennessee. He became ill from exposure while on picket duty and never recovered his health. He completed his service 25 August 1865.1
