     Jasper Newton Ball was born on 19 April 1826 at Hebron, Grafton Co., NH.2 He was the son of William Ball and Fanny Danforth.1 Jasper Newton Ball married Caroline Ward Smith, daughter of Calvin D. Smith, on 9 July 1853.1 Jasper Newton Ball married Martha Ann Haines, daughter of Daniel Haines and Sophronia Dearborn, on 2 October 1864.1 Jasper Newton Ball died on 6 June 1870 at Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI, at age 44.2 He was buried at Fulton Street Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI.3
     He prepared for the ministry at Thetford, Vermont, Academy, Troy Polytechnic School, Troy, New York and Union Theological Seminary, where he graduated in 1852. He was ordained an evangelist at Lyme, 30 Jun 1853. He was a missionary at Caesarea, Syria, 1853-6 and at Yogat, Turkey, 1856-61. He returned to this contry in 1861. Here he held pastorates in Oconto, Wis., 1862-4 and Grand Rapids, Mich., 1864-6. During his second marriage he served again as a missionary in West Turkey 1866-9, when he returned again to this country.1

     Frank Webster Ball was born on 18 August 1851 at Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI.2 He was the son of John Ball and Mary Thompson Webster.1 Frank Webster Ball married Josephine Gertrude Lungren, daughter of Samuel S. Lungren and Mary C. (????), in 1877.1 Frank Webster Ball married Anna Hopkins, daughter of Mordecai L. Hopkins and Sarah Rathbone, on 1 February 1890.3 Frank Webster Ball and Anna Hopkins were divorced on 19 December 1901 at Circuit Court, Kent Co., MI.3 Frank Webster Ball married Lulu G. Evits, daughter of Albert E. Evits and Eliza A. Trueblood, on 20 June 1907 at Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI.4 Frank Webster Ball died on 14 October 1915 at Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI, at age 64.2 He was buried at Fulton Street Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI.5
     Frank attended elementary school and graduated from Central High in Grand Rapids, and then went on to the University of Michigan, from which he graduated in 1875. He followed this with jobs as a reporter for the "Philadelphia Times" for three years (1876-1878), the "Baltimore American" (1878-1880), and the "New York World" (1880-1882). From 1882-1891 he was the Editor and Publisher of the "Grand Rapids Democrat". It is presumed he was given money for the purchase of this business by his father.
