     From an obituary: David N. Price, aged 83, died Saturday, March 26 at 4:00 P.M. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lynn Hodson on Eldon rural route, with whom he had resided for the past year. He was born July 10th, 1865 at Keokuk, Iowa. He was the son of Richard and Mary Nelson Price, and had lived in Eldon for 62 years. Mr. Price was married in 1889 to Maymie Elmore. She proceeded him in death in 1922. Surviving are three daughter, Mrs. Lynn Hodson of Eldon, Mrs. Leta Ahre of San Bernardino, California, Mrs. Margaret Wingfield of Romaland, Calif., one son, William D. Price of Colton Calif., six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.1

     Mayme Sophia Elmore was born on 9 January 1869 at Keokuk, Lee Co., IA.1,2 She was the daughter of Joseph Howard Elmore and Sophia Anna McGlashen.1 Mayme Sophia Elmore married David Nelson Price, son of Richard Price and Mary Ann Nelson, in 1889 at Eldon, Wapello Co., IA.1 Mayme Sophia Elmore died in 1922 at Eldon, Wapello Co., IA.1 She was buried at Eldon Cemetery, Eldon, Wapello Co., IA.1
     As of 1889,her married name was Price. From an obituary: Mrs. David Price passed away at her home last Friday morning after a short illness of pneumonia. With the exception of one year, Mrs. Price's entire life was spent in Eldon. She was the only child of Joseph Howard Elmore and Sophia Anna McGlashen, having been born in Keokuk, Iowa in 1870. She was 52 years of age at the time of her death. At the age of five she went to Eldon with her parents, where she received her education and grew to womanhood. She was a faithful and active member of the local Methodist Church, and at the time of her death, was recording secretary of the Women's Missionary Society of the church. She was an active member of the Ladies' Aid Society, being president of their social committee. She was a member of the local Rachael Rebecca Lodge and held the office of Inside Guardian, and was also second vice president of the Degree of Honor. She was united in marriage to David Price in 1889 in Eldon. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Myrtle Hodson of Batavia, Mrs. Leta Ahre of Longmont, Colo., and William and Margaret, who are at home. Funeral services were held from the home on Sunday after noon, conducted by Rev. Treventon Warren of the Methodist church. The Rebeccas also held services. Interment took place in the Eldon cemetery.1

     He began military service on 21 October 1861 in the Union army in the Civil War as a Private in Company E in Iowa's 15th Infantry. He is likely the one listed in the Iowa rosters as Howard Elmore, whose residence was Keokuk, Iowa, and nativity was Illinois, and was later wounded at Atlanta.1

From an obituary: Mrs. Sophia Anna Elmore was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Price of Eldon, October 28, 1918. She was the fourth child of John and Mary McGlashen. Her sisters Mrs. David Moore of Eldon, and Mrs. Celia Harrison of California, and her brother William of Agency, survive her. Her father, mother, two sisters, and a brother have preceded her in death. In her early childhood, she came with her family to Keokuk, Iowa where she graduated from high school. She married Howard Elmore at Keokuk, one child, Mayme, being born to them. She taught school for 22 years, twelve of them in the Eldon schools. She always loved church work and was one of the charter members of the Eldon Congregational Church. Three weeks ago in order that she might have the best of care, her daughter brought her here from Yampa (Iowa) where she has lived with her brother, William, for twenty years. She died asking God to come and take her. Besides her daughter, her sisters and brother, she leaves four grandchildren and four great grandchildren to mourn for her.1

He died Sept. 25, 1992. She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School and attended Parsons College. A resident of Agency since 1937, she taught in Wapello County rural schools and was a long time employee of the Ottumwa Courier. She was a member of Agency United Methodist Church and Chapter An of TTT in Agency, where she served as its first president. She is survived by a brother, Harold Hodson of Chicago; and a sister, Dorothy Seager of Vernal, Utah. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hodson; and a sister, Madlyn Manning. The service will be 1:30 p.m.. Wednesday at Agency United Methodist Church, the Rev. Judy DeWeber officiating. Burial will be in Agency Cemetery.1

Robert Lynn Hodson1

     Robert Lynn Hodson was born on 8 February 1918 at Fairfield, Jefferson Co., IA.1 He was the son of Jesse Lynn Hodson and Myrtle Anna Price.1 Robert Lynn Hodson died on 14 October 1943 at Schweinfurt, Germany, at age 25.1 He was buried at Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England.1
     Robert Lynn Hodson received his training as a navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Texas and at the Pan-American Navigation School at Miami, Florida. In December of 1941 he was promoted to second lieutenant. He was advanced to the rank of first lieutenant June 16, 1941. He was advanced to a Major in the US Air Force on September 17, 1943, and became a navigator on the leading Flying Fortress in his squadron. He was killed in the bombing raid over Schweinfurth, Germany on Oct. 14, 1943 in which 60 Flying Fortresses were lost. He was killed when a cannon shell exploded in the nose of the plane on which he was navigator. Though mortally wounded, Major Hodson's last act was to give the pilot a corrected course for the return journey. His plane returned from its mission, and he was the only casualty of his crew. He was buried with military rites in the American Cemetery and Memorial in North Cambridge. Previously he was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross (awarded for heroism in an aerial flight) for his participation in shuttle raids between England and Africa and the bombing of Regensgurt, and had been awarded the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster (for meritorious achievement in an aerial flight in the national emergency since Sept. 8, 1939). At his death he received the Army Silver Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster (for gallantry in situations not warranting the Medal of Honor or the Distinguished Service Cross), and the Purple Heart Medal (for those wounded in action against the enemy).1

     From an obituary: Oscar F Spear, 83, of Agency died at 10:20 p.m. Sept 25, 1992, at Sunnyslope Care Center in Ottumwa. He was born Dec. 19, 1908, in Indianola to Clayton and Clydena McGuire Spear. He married Helen Hodson in August 1937, in Agney. He graduated from Agency High School and Gem City Business College in Quincy, Ill. A resident of Agency most of his life, he had worked at First National Bank in Ottumwa for 38 years, retiring as assistant cashier in 1970. He operated an insurance agency for 35 years and had been treasurer of city of Agency for 30 years. He was a member of Agency United Methodist Church and was a 50 year member and Past Master of Olive Branch Masonic Lodge No. 21 AF&AM. He served 30 years as secretary. He was a member of Clinton Chapter 9, Ottumwa Council 3a, Malta Commandery 31, KAABA Shrine in Davenport and Ottumwa Shrine Club. He was past president of Agency Lions and a member of BPO Elks 347. He is survived by his wife. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ivyl. The service will be 1:30 p.m. today at Agency United Methodist Church, the Revs, Mary Shultz and Vern Elder officiating. Burial will be in Agency Cemetery.1

     Maurice Jay Manning was born on 30 October 1905 at Batavia, Wapello Co., IA.1 He was the son of George Brown Manning and Anna Eliza Tunner.1 Maurice Jay Manning married Madelyn Lucille Hodson, daughter of Jesse Lynn Hodson and Myrtle Anna Price, on 2 September 1934 at Montezuma, Poweshiek Co., IA.1 Maurice Jay Manning died on 24 June 1989 at Newton, Jasper Co., IA, at age 83.1 He was buried at Agency Cemetery, Agency, Wapello Co., IA.1
     Maurice spent seven years in the employ of the Superintendent of Banking of the State of Iowa, first as an 'assistant' then as an 'examiner in charge' in the liquidation of numerous southeastern Iowa banks. In 1937 he came to Newton, Iowa to be the secretary and managing officer of the Newton Home Savings and Loan Association. He continued in that position until he purchased a portion of the Muilenberg Insurance Agency and thereafter operated the Manning Insurance and Real Estate Agency until his retirement in 1968.1

     Leta Elmore Price was born on 25 September 1893 at Eldon, Wapello Co., IA.1,2 She was the daughter of David Nelson Price and Mayme Sophia Elmore.1 Leta Elmore Price married Emil Engebretsen Ahre, son of Enoch Matthias Engebretsen and Gurina Gaadesdatter Lovaas, on 25 May 1911 at Duluth, St. Louis Co., MN.1 Leta Elmore Price died on 5 June 1955 at San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., CA, at age 61.1 She was buried on 7 June 1955 at Mountain View Cemetery, San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., CA.1
     As of 25 May 1911,her married name was Ahre. From an obituary: Mrs. Leta Elmore Ahre, 62, of 916 Rialto Ave., died Sunday in a San Bernardino hospital. A native of Iowa, she had lived in San Bernardino 26 years. Survivors include the widower, Emil, San Bernardino; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Broeffle, Los Angeles; a brother, William Price, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Hodson, Eldon, Iowa, and Mrs. Margaret Wingfield, Hemet, and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday in Stephen and Bobbitt Chapel. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.1

     From an obituary: William David Price, 63, formerly of Eldon, died of a heart attach Saturday at 3:30 P.M. at his home in Colton, Calif. He had been an employee of Pacific Fruit Express for many years. Born Dec 21, 1897, in Eldon, the son of David N. and Mayme Price, he was reared in Eldon and worked for the Rock Island Railroad. He was unmarried. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Lynn Hodson of Eldon, Route 1, and Mrs. Joe Wingfield of Yuba City, Calif. one sister preceded him in death. The body is at the Knotsnyder Funeral Home in Colton, where the service will be held Wednesday with burial in Colton.1

     Emil Engebretsen Ahre was born on 19 December 1882 at Toronto, Deuel Co., SD.1,2 He was the son of Enoch Matthias Engebretsen and Gurina Gaadesdatter Lovaas.1 Emil Engebretsen Ahre married Leta Elmore Price, daughter of David Nelson Price and Mayme Sophia Elmore, on 25 May 1911 at Duluth, St. Louis Co., MN.1 Emil Engebretsen Ahre died on 10 December 1965 at San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., CA, at age 82.1,2 He was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, San Bernardino, San Bernardino Co., CA.1
     The name "Ahre" is actually the farm name from where Emil's family came in Norway. At the time, Norwegians didn't have family surnames, but either used their farm name or their father's name, followed by sen (son) or datter (daughter.)1 He registered for Selective Service on 12 September 1918.
