Gordon M. Booth1

Gordon M. Booth was born on 12 November 1912 at Los Angeles Co., CA.1 He married Elizabeth Nelson Edwards in 1940.1 Gordon M. Booth married Nancy Reynolds, daughter of George Greenwood Reynolds and Lucy Blake Clapp, on 7 January 1985 at Stowe, Lamoille Co., VT.1 Gordon M. Booth died on 18 July 2005 at Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Co., CA, at age 92.1
From an obituary in the "Santa Barbara News-Press": Gordon M. Booth, a Santa Barbara resident for the past 34 years, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2005 at the age of 92. Born November 12, 1912 in Los Angeles, California he attended John Burroughs Junior High and Los Angeles High School. His plans to attend U.C.L.A. were abandoned due to his father's untimely death.
Gordon and his brother Norman started the Booth Insurance Agency to support their mother and sister. In 1954 the business evolved into Booth and Simpson Insurance Agency where Gordon served as President until his retirement. He served in Naval Intelligence during World War II, and after the war, returned to the family business.
Gordon married Elizabeth Nelson Edwards ("Betty") in 1940 and they had three daughters, Susan Booth Margrave (Lawrie), Lucita Booth Hromadka (Lucy) and Elizabeth Edwards Booth (Libby) who predeceased her father in August of 2004. Gordon and Betty moved from Toluca Lake to the Santa Barbara area in 1971. After Betty's death in 1984, Gordon met Nancy Reynolds Cooke and they were married in Stowe, Vermont in 1985. During their 20 year marriage, Gordon and Nancy designed and built a beautiful home in Birnam Wood and later moved to Casa Dorinda where Nancy died in January of 2005.
Insurance was Gordon's career, but golf was always his passion. He joined Lakeside Golf Club in the early 1950's where he served on numerous committees and the Board of Directors including the position of president. He was an officer of the Southern California Golf Association for many years and was president of the association the year he appeared on the first cover of "Fore" Magazine with Bob Hope in 1968. As the past president of the California Golf Association, he appeared again on the cover for the 25th anniversary edition with Bob Hope in 1993. After moving to Carpinteria, Gordon enjoyed his golf at The Valley Club of Montecito where he was a member for 36 years. Gordon is loved and will be missed by his daughter Lawrie and her husband Frank Margrave of Palos Verdes, daughter Lucy and her husband Don Hromadka of Carpinteria; grandchildren Suzanne Maury, Jim Maury, his wife Carolyn, Christopher Margrave, Duncan and Evan Hromadka and great-grandson Charles Maury. According to Gordon's wishes, a private burial at sea will be attended by his family. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Gordon's name may be made to the Santa Barbara Cancer Foundation.1
