She was 52 years of age at the time of her death. At the age of five she went to Eldon with her parents, where she received her education and grew to womanhood. She was a faithful and active member of the local Methodist Church, and at the time of her death, was recording secretary of the Women's Missionary Society of the church. She was an active member of the Ladies' Aid Society, being president of their social committee. She was a member of the local Rachael Rebecca Lodge and held the office of Inside Guardian, and was also second vice president of the Degree of Honor. She was united in marriage to David Price in 1889 in Eldon. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Myrtle Hodson of Batavia, Mrs. Leta Ahre of Longmont, Colo., and William and Margaret, who are at home. Funeral services were held from the home on Sunday after noon, conducted by Rev. Treventon Warren of the Methodist church. The Rebeccas also held services. Interment took place in the Eldon cemetery.1

Robert Lynn Hodson1

Robert Lynn Hodson was born on 8 February 1918 at Fairfield, Jefferson Co., IA.1 He was the son of Jesse Lynn Hodson and Myrtle Anna Price.1 Robert Lynn Hodson died on 14 October 1943 at Schweinfurt, Germany, at age 25.1 He was buried at Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England.1
Robert Lynn Hodson received his training as a navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Texas and at the Pan-American Navigation School at Miami, Florida. In December of 1941 he was promoted to second lieutenant. He was advanced to the rank of first lieutenant June 16, 1941. He was advanced to a Major in the US Air Force on September 17, 1943, and became a navigator on the leading Flying Fortress in his squadron. He was killed in the bombing raid over Schweinfurth, Germany on Oct. 14, 1943 in which 60 Flying Fortresses were lost. He was killed when a cannon shell exploded in the nose of the plane on which he was navigator. Though mortally wounded, Major Hodson's last act was to give the pilot a corrected course for the return journey. His plane returned from its mission, and he was the only casualty of his crew. He was buried with military rites in the American Cemetery and Memorial in North Cambridge. Previously he was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross (awarded for heroism in an aerial flight) for his participation in shuttle raids between England and Africa and the bombing of Regensgurt, and had been awarded the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster (for meritorious achievement in an aerial flight in the national emergency since Sept. 8, 1939). At his death he received the Army Silver Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster (for gallantry in situations not warranting the Medal of Honor or the Distinguished Service Cross), and the Purple Heart Medal (for those wounded in action against the enemy).1

In December of 1941 he was promoted to second lieutenant. He was advanced to the rank of first lieutenant June 16, 1941. He was advanced to a Major in the US Air Force on September 17, 1943, and became a navigator on the leading Flying Fortress in his squadron. He was killed in the bombing raid over Schweinfurth, Germany on Oct. 14, 1943 in which 60 Flying Fortresses were lost. He was killed when a cannon shell exploded in the nose of the plane on which he was navigator. Though mortally wounded, Major Hodson's last act was to give the pilot a corrected course for the return journey. His plane returned from its mission, and he was the only casualty of his crew. He was buried with military rites in the American Cemetery and Memorial in North Cambridge. Previously he was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross (awarded for heroism in an aerial flight) for his participation in shuttle raids between England and Africa and the bombing of Regensgurt, and had been awarded the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster (for meritorious achievement in an aerial flight in the national emergency since Sept. 8, 1939). At his death he received the Army Silver Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster (for gallantry in situations not warranting the Medal of Honor or the Distinguished Service Cross), and the Purple Heart Medal (for those wounded in action against the enemy).1

He continued in that position until he purchased a portion of the Muilenberg Insurance Agency and thereafter operated the Manning Insurance and Real Estate Agency until his retirement in 1968.1
