     Henry Grow enlisted as sergeant in 14th Infantry Volunteers in the Union Army in December 1861. He fought in Battle of Shiloh, Siege of Corinth, and Battle of Boonville. In 1863 he was wounded and in hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Between 1863 and 1864 he served as a clerk in the Adjutant General's Office. In 1864 Henry Grow transferred to the 18th Regiment, Veteran Reserves, serving in Washington DC. He was discharged from U.S. Army after contracting smallpox.¹ He served in the Assembly in 1912 at Detroit, Wayne Co., MI.¹
