Alpheus Joseph Lukens was born on 8 June 1878 at Richmond, Franklin Co., KS.2 He was the son of George M. Lukens and Emily Alzada Ball.1 Alpheus Joseph Lukens married Mamie Viola Redfield, daughter of George Zina Redfield and Imogene Inez Austin, on 14 September 1904 at Bucklin, Ford Co., KS.2 Alpheus Joseph Lukens died on 7 December 1921 at Independence, Jackson Co., MO, at age 43.2 He was buried at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, Jackson Co., MO.2
From an obituary in the "Independence Examiner": Independence Jeweler Dies at Sanitarium After a Brief Illness.
J. A. Lukens, proprietor of the Edison Shop on the west side of the square, died at 2 o’clock this morning at the Independence Sanitarium, following the rupture of a blood vessel. Mr. Lukens had gone to the sanitarium Tuesday to receive treatment for asthma, from which he had been suffering for several days. Mr. Lukens had lived in Independence four years, coming here from Atchison, Kans. For the past two years he had been in business for himself. He was born in Richmond, Kans., forty three years ago. In 1905 he was married Miss Mayme Redfield, a sister of R. R. Redfield of this city. He is survived by his wife and four children, Herman, Harland, Gene and June Marie. Mr. Lukens was a graduate optometrist and experienced jeweler. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints.
The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Stone Church. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery.2
