Comment by DGB: Nancy Mae Johnson was Nancy Quartermas when she married Thomas Shatto in 1879. Both Lucy and her brother Robert were both born well before Nancy's marriage to Thomas Shatto, so it would suggest that their actual father was Enoch Quartermas. However, since all subsequent records show that the father of Lucy and Robert to have been Thomas Shatto, it is possible that both Nancy and Robert were raised as his children. Whether there was a formal adoption process underpinning this is not known. End of comment.
