Amos Adams was born on 22 March 1829 at Brookfield, Worcester Co., MA.1 He was the son of Joseph Adams and Phebe Newhall.1 Amos Adams married Clarissa Smith, daughter of Franklin Smith and Clarisa Smith, in 1859.1 Amos Adams died on 6 February 1864 at Camp Meigs, Dedham, Norfolk Co., MA, at age 34.1
He was a soldier in the 4th Massachusetts Cavalry; and died in camp at Dedham Feb 6, 1864. That Civil War fort would be Camp Meigs, located in the then Readville section of Dedham. Since that time, Boston City lines have been redrawn so as to include Readville within its limits. Part of the old Camp Meigs still lies within Dedham's boundaries. The area of Camp Meigs became a horse racing facility after the Civil War. Even up to fairly recent times, one could still find remnants of the horse facilities. If you were to visit the area today, it would be closest to the Capen section of Dedham. (Possibly Camp Brighham.)1

Last Will and Testament of Edward Forbes Batcheller: Be it remembered, that I Edward F. Batcheller, of Northbridge, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, being of sound mind and memory, but knowing the uncertainty of this life, do make this my last will and testament. After the payment of my must debts and funeral charges, I bequeath and devise as follows: To my wife, Clarissa Batcheller, the right to live on the place owned by me, at said Northbridge, free of expense or charges for the period of two years after my decease if she so desires. To my wife, Clarissa Batcheller, the sum of Two Thousand Dollars to be raised by my Administrator out of my estate, as may seem best to them, and said sum, is to be in lieu of her right of dower, and of any claims, otherwise against my estate but is in addition to her right of residence on the place owned by me as specified in the first paragraph of this instrument. I direct that all the rest of my estate, shall be divided into two equal parts, and that one of these equal parts, be given to my daughter, Sara Francis, the other of these equal parts, to be divided equally between two remaining children, Franklin Henry and Emma Louisa. In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand, and in the presence of three witnesses, declare this to be my last-will ,this thirty first day of May, in the year, on thousand eight hundred and eighty four. But if my real estate should be found to amount to Four Thousand Dollars or more, then it is my will that Three Thousand Dollars, shall be the sum to be raised and paid to my wife as before provided. This gift or payment, is in lieu of all right of dower, but in-addition to the right of residence, provided in my foregoing will, In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand and in the presence of three witnesses declare this to be a Codicil to my last will and testament, this 18th day of November 1885.
