     As of 14 December 1911,her married name was Holliday.² From an obituary in the "Ukiah Daily Journal": family moved here from their ranch in the early 1900s and Mrs. Holliday had her elementary and high school education in Ukiah schools. Mrs. Holliday was a charter member of the Kosmos Garden Club organized here in 1913 and of the Ukiah Garden Club. She served as president of Kosmos in 1943. Family members surviving her are her husband Harold Holliday of the home address at Talmage; her son, Clair Holliday, also of Talmare, and two grandchildren, Tim and Julie Holliday; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Lilburn Gibson of Elk, Mrs. Lola Wilson of Ukiah, Ernest Ball of Albany and Irvin Ball of Talmage. Contributions to the Heart Fund are preferred by the family.¹

     Ernest Burnham Ball was born on 15 December 1894 at Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ He was the son of Emmett Burnham Ball and Etta Ellen Ingram.¹ Ernest Burnham Ball married Marguerite Mae Davidson, daughter of William Hiram Davidson and Julia Francis Melvin, on 9 July 1919 at San Francisco Co., CA.² Ernest Burnham Ball died on 21 September 1968 at Albany, Alameda Co., CA, at age 73.¹ He was buried at Santa Rosa Memorial Park, Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co., CA.²
     He was a veteran of both WWI and WWII.¹ From an obituary from the "Ukiah Daily Journal": Graveside services were held Tuesday for Ernest B. Ball, 73, pioneer of this area whose parents Burnham and Etta Ingram Ball were also pioneers here. Born in Boonville on Dec. 15, 1895, Mr. Ball was a veteran of World War I and World War II. He was highly decorated in World War I having received the Distrinquished Service Cross on two seperate citations. He served as a pharmacist's mate in the Navy during both wars. Mr. Ball, who was residing in Albany, died September 21 at his home. He had been hospitalized for a year or more. The graveside services were held in Santa Rosa Memorial Park with only the family present. They ask that no flowers be sent. Surviving are his wife Marguerite Ball of the home address in Albany, a son Ernest Jr., also of Albany, and a daughter Bernice of Walnut Grove. He was the brother of Edna Holliday, deceased of Ukiah; Velma Gibson, Elk and Lola Wilson, Ukiah, and also one brother Irvin Ball, Talmage.²

     Velma Juanita Ball was born on 18 June 1898 at Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ She was the daughter of Emmett Burnham Ball and Etta Ellen Ingram.¹ Velma Juanita Ball married Lilburn Irwin Gibson, son of Mathew Beauregard Gibson and Cora Edith Babcox, on 13 December 1916 at Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ Velma Juanita Ball died on 23 October 1986 at Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA, at age 88.¹ She was buried on 27 October 1986 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA.¹
     As of 13 December 1916,her married name was Gibson.¹ From an obituary from the "Ukiah Daily Journal": Memorial services will be held Monday, Oct. 27, 2 p.m. at Eversole Mortuary for longtime Ukiah, resident Velma Juanita Gibson, 88. Born June 18 1898, in Boonville, she was a housewife, past master of the Eastern Star and past president of Kosmos Club. She died Oct. 23, 1986 after a long illness. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with officers of the Eastern Star officiating. She was the widow of the late Supreme Court Judge Lilburn J. Gibson and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Ball of the pioneer Jefferson David Bell [sic] family and descendent of the pioneer Ingram and Clow families of Anderson Valley. Gibson moved to Ukiah when she was six years old and during her early married life she was half owner of a flower shop in Ukiah. One brother, Ernest B. Bell [sic] and a sister, Edna Holliday, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Arden R. Gibson and Ernestine Davis of Ukiah; grandchildren Susan Miles and Judith Zwicky of Ukiah, Sandra Davis of Sebastopol and Sheryl L. Flores of Virginia Beach, VA. Great-grandchildren are Robert N. and Michael J. Zwicky of Ukiah; Jennifer and Sarah Miles of Ukiah; Kathryn Zwicky Quinones of Davis and Raymond Flores of Virginia Beach. Her great, great grandchild is Christopher Zwicky of Ukiah. Her sister Lola Wilson of Ukiah, brother Irvin of Ukiah and several nieces and nephews also survive.²

Wheeler, on 1 June 1942 at Reno, Washoe Co., NV.¹ Lola Mereta Ball and Leslie Gilbert Knighton were divorced.¹ Lola Mereta Ball married Harry Leslie Smith, son of John L. Wilson, 87, of Ukiah, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 1992, in Ukiah. Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Eversole Mortuary in Ukiah. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, also at Eversole's, with the rev. Dick Ober of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment will be at the Ukiah Cemetery on Low Gap Road. Mrs. Wilson was born on April 16, 1904, to Mrs. and Mrs. E. B. Ball, in Boonville. She was a member of the pioneer Jefferson David [sic] Ball family and a descendent of the Ingram and Clow families of Anderson Valley. The family moved to Ukiah when Mrs. Wilson was 6 months old and she lived in Ukiah all of her life. She was employed for 20 years as an attendant and laundry worker at the Mendocino State Hospital. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Wilson in 1963, and her daughters Shirley Dumas Green in 1953 and Barbara Dumas Cohen in 1983. She is survived by her son Ron Dumas and his wife Elva, of Citrus Heights; grandchildren Tobin and Robert Cohen of Reno, Nev., Robin Dumas Hare of Roseville, Linda Green Gibbs of Foresthill, Ronna Dumas-Bronner of Cameron Park, and Todd Cohen of Sparks, Nev; and six great-grandchildren, Joshua and Mylana and Chelsea Cohen, all of Reno, Nev., Calder Scott and Cody Cohen of Sparks, Nev., and Caitlin Marie Hare of Roseville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ukiah Senior Center.²

     From an obituary in the "Mendocino Beacon", Mendocino, CA: Dreeme Life Ball passed away Wednesday at 2:30 P.M., after a lingering illness of many months. Until about two years ago Mr. Ball had always been in robust health, following the outdoor life as much as possible. Nothing pleased him more than taking relatives or friends, when the opportunity offered, out on trips over the mountains in pursuit of his favorite pastimes of fishing and hunting, and after they had noticed he was failing in health, they had always hoped his rugged constitution would overcome his illness and that he would again be placed among them as they had always known him. After it was found that skilled medical hands could no [sic] nothing to restore him, death came only as a relief to his many sufferings.
     Deceased was born in Boonville, Mendocino County, California, October 9, 1873, at which place he had spent his boyhood days, being one of a family of several children. After growing into manhood and receiving a good education he started out in life for himself and taught successfully for a term of years in our public schools. It was while following this vocation that he became engaged to Miss Louise Rice Handley, whose parents for years owned and conducted what was always familiarly known as Handley's Resort on the Ukiah Road. They were married July 4, 1897, and shortly afterwards moved to Albion where they have always made their home.
     The community at large feels that they are losing an honest and upright citizen, one who always stood ready to assist, and in whose presence and home you could always feel welcome. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his sorrowing wife and the following relatives who survive him: a brother, E. B. Ball, of Ukiah; and three sisters: Mrs. J. B. Hunt of Bakersfield, Cal., Mrs. J. J. Smalley of Cloverdale, Cal., and Mrs. G. M. Miller of Boonville, Cal.²

Filkins and Mary Hanes, on 16 June 1880 at St. Helena, Napa Co., CA.¹ Ella Melissa Sheffield died on 6 December 1902 at Riverside, Riverside Co., CA, at age 50.¹ She was buried on 8 December 1902 at St. Helena, Napa Co., CA.¹
