     Emmett Burnham Ball was born on 19 May 1868 at Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ He was the son of Jefferson Davis Ball and Melissa Flavilla Kendall.¹ Emmett Burnham Ball married Minnie Mochician McAbee, daughter of John Wesley McAbee and Susan Minerva Weaver, on 6 January 1889 at Mendocino Co., CA.¹ Emmett Burnham Ball married Etta Ellen Ingram, daughter of Daniel Cass Ingram and Mary Ellen Clow, on 8 November 1891 at Philo, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ Emmett Burnham Ball died on 21 January 1941 at Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA, at age 72.¹ He was buried on 23 January 1941 at Russian River Cemetery, Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA.¹
     From an obituary in the Ukiah CA "Dispatch Democrat": E. B. Ball was the son of the late J.D. Ball, who is said to have been the second white settler in Anderson Valley. Deceased was born in Anderson Valley and grew to manhood there. Coming to Ukiah many years ago, he was state farmer under Fred Handy, then manager of the State Hospital, and during the years was a merchant in Ukiah, located whee the Morris Drug Store now stands. He was formerly a deputy assessor and a member of Ukiah's police force. E. B. Ball was rated in the community a substantial citizen of the good, old type, whose honesty and integrity were never questioned. He drew around him many friends who were shocked at the sudden death. Mr. Ball was in Ukiah the day before his death, greeting his friends here. Mr. Ball is survived by his widow, Mrs. Etta Ball, three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Velma Gibson of Ukiah, Mrs. Edna Holliday, Talmage, Mrs. Lola Dumas, Ukiah, Ernest Ball of Albany and Irvin Ball of Talmage. A sister, Mrs. Emily Miller, also survives. Mrs. Miller is now the sole survivor in her generation of a large, pioneer family. Funeral services were under the direction of Eversole Mortuary.²

     Etta Ellen Ingram was born on 23 September 1871 at Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ She was the daughter of Daniel Cass Ingram and Mary Ellen Clow.¹ Etta Ellen Ingram married Emmett Burnham Ball, son of Jefferson Davis Ball and Melissa Flavilla Kendall, on 8 November 1891 at Philo, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ Etta Ellen Ingram died on 6 February 1947 at Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA, at age 75.¹ She was buried on 9 February 1947 at Russian River Cemetery, Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA.¹
     As of 8 November 1891,her married name was Ball.¹

     Jefferson Davis Ball was born on 21 February 1827 at Madison Co., NY; an obituary from the "Fort Bragg Advocate" 16 May 1900 states the birth as 22 February 1826, but all of the census records suggest a birth year of 1827.^1,2 He was the son of James C. Ball. Jefferson Davis Ball married Melissa Flavilla Kendall, daughter of Young Ichabod Kendall and Fannie Flavilla Burnham, on 1 January 1855 at Soda Springs Rancho, Russian River, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ Jefferson Davis Ball died on 6 May 1900 at Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA, at age 73.¹ He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA.¹
     Comment by DGB: It is an assumption that James C. Ball is the father of Jefferson Davis Ball. Jefferson Davis Ball was born in Madison County, New York in 1826. He named his oldest daughter Julia for his sister. James Ball was living in Brookfield, Madison, New York in the 1830 census and had a son in the right age group to be Jefferson. He also had a daughter named Julia. End of comment.³ From an obituary in the "Mendocino Beacon": On Sunday last J.D. Ball died at his home in Anderson Valley, aged 74 years. Death was caused by pneumonia. Deceased was born in Madison County, New York, lived some years in Wisconsin and came to California in 1850, crossing the plains with a horse team. He settled in Anderson Valley in 1852 and has resided there ever since, engaging in fruit -growing and stock -raising. Mr. Ball has been one of the county's foremost citizens and was universally respected. His wife passed away some years ago but he leaves a number of grown children, to whom is extended the sympathy of many friends.² From an obituary from the "Fort Bragg Advocate": He resided with his parents on a farm until April, 1844, when he went to Wisconsin, where he followed farming until 1850, when he immigrated to California, crossing the plains with horse teams. He arrived in Hangtown (Placerville) in August after a four months trip. After spending two years in the mines, Mr. Ball came to Mendocino county and settled in Anderson Valley in August, 1852. He owns eight hundred acres of land about a mile north from Booneville, where he follows farming and wool- growing. For the past two years he has kept a state station on the line running from Cloverdale to Mendocino City. Mr. Ball married, January 1, 1855, a young widow, a native of Vermont, with two children. They have eight children, four sons and four daughters.²

     Melissa Flavilla Kendall was born on 18 October 1835 at Branley's Veil, Kirby, Caledonia Co., VT.² She was the daughter of Young Ichabod Kendall and Fannie Flavilla Burnham.¹ Melissa Flavilla Kendall married Eleazer E. Sheffield on 18 October 1852 at McHenry Co., IL.¹ Melissa Flavilla Kendall married Jefferson Davis Ball, son of James C. Ball, on 1 January 1855 at Soda Springs Rancho, Russian River, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ Melissa Flavilla Kendall died on 16 March 1892 at Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA, at age 56.¹ She was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA.¹
     As of 18 October 1852,her married name was Sheffield.¹ As of 1 January 1855,her married name was Ball.¹

     Gustav Wolf was born on 10 April 1877 at Kirchberg, Germany.¹ He married Elsa Martha Knaesche on 23 October 1907 at Lawrence, Douglas Co., KS.¹ Gustav Wolf died on 4 April 1954 at Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA, at age 76.¹

     Elsa Martha Knaesche was born on 5 November 1888 at Bischofswerda, Germany.¹ She married Gustav Wolf on 23 October 1907 at Lawrence, Douglas Co., KS.¹ Elsa Martha Knaesche died on 10 December 1978 at Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA, at age 90.¹
     As of 23 October 1907,her married name was Wolf.¹

     Daniel Cass Ingram was born on 2 August 1847 at Fulton Co., IL.¹ He married Mary Ellen Clow on 24 July 1870 at Vichy Springs, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ Daniel Cass Ingram died on 27 April 1919 at Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA, at age 71.¹ He was buried on 29 April 1919 at Boonville, Mendocino Co., CA.¹

     Mary Ellen Clow was born on 8 July 1852 at Copper Harbor, Keweenaw Co., MI.¹ She married Daniel Cass Ingram on 24 July 1870 at Vichy Springs, Mendocino Co., CA.¹ Mary Ellen Clow died on 6 December 1937 at Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA, at age 85.¹ She was buried on 8 December 1937 at Anderson Valley, Mendocino Co., CA.¹
