Harold Robinson Bloomfield was born circa 1908 at NY.1 He was the son of Harry C. Bloomfield and Marquerite (????)1 Harold Robinson Bloomfield died on 23 September 1987 at Saint Mary's Abbey, Morristown, NJ.2
Harold Robinson Bloomfield was also known as Father Clement Bloomfield.3 From an announcement by the Abbot of Saint Mary's Abbey, Delbarton, Morristown, New Jersey: On September 23, 1987, Father Clement Bloomfield died quietly in the Abbey Health Care Center of congestive heart failure. Father Clement was 78. Born in New York City, son of Marquerite and Harry Bloomfield, Father Clement attended the public grammer and high schools in the Bronx. Father was raised an Episcopalian and became a convert to Catholicism in 1935. Father Clement was a graduate of St. John Preparatory Seminar at Graymoor, Garrison, N.Y. and received a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from St. Vincent College, Latrobe, Pa. in 1947. Father Clement entered the novitiate in 1943, was simply professed in 1944 and solumnly professed in 1947. He was ordained at St. Mary's Priory in 1950.
Father Clement taught at Delbarton School and at St. Benedict's Prep, spending most of his teaching years at Delbarton where he taught Art and English. He served as assistant in several of our parishes: Sacred Heart Parish in Wilmington, Delaware and Notre Dame Parinsh at Cedar Knolls, New Jersey. He also was Chaplain to the sisters at St. John Academy, Gladstone, and Mallinckrodt Convent, Mendham, N.J.
It was after his active years that Father Clement interested himself in his favorite avocation, genealogy. He spent much time and effort in tracing his family roots. He became active in the Genealogical Society of New Jersey and the national Society of the Sons of The American Revolution, Washington, D.C. His notes and findings are voluminous. It was this interest in the past that made Father Clement a prime candidate for Abbey Archivist. He served in this capacity from 1970 till he died. Father Clement loved to talk, especially about his life as a non-Catholic and his conversion to the faith. His faith meant very much to him. Father Clement will be remembered in our prayers and Masses. We ask you to remember him also in yours. Pax!2
