Betsey Ball1

Comment by DGB: The listing on-line of "Mt. Riga Cemetery, Salisbury, CT, as Published in Historical Collections of The Salisbury Association Inc., Vol. 1. 1913" that says Betsy Ball, daughter of Silas H. and "Samantha I"., died 25 July 1850, age 1 year 9 months (i.e., b. circa 25 October 1848) and was buried in Mt. Riga Cemetery. There was no suitable Ball family on the 1850 census in Salisbury taken a few weeks later, but some suggest that Hiram S. Ball was also known as Silas H. Ball and it would be reasonable for him to have a daughter named after his wife, Betsey. There are many erroneous connections between the Silas H. Ball and his wife Samantha who was born in NY and died in MI and the Ball families of Salisbury CT, which may be how the mother of this Betsey came to be listed as Samantha. End of comment.
