William Horatio Dewing1,2,3

M, #99943, b. 4 June 1858, d. 24 November 1925
William Horatio Dewing was born on 4 June 1858 at Litchfield, Herkimer Co., NY.1,4,5 He was the son of George Dewing and Mary Ann Ball.1 William Horatio Dewing married Olive E. Van Auken, daughter of Sidney Van Auken and Frances Jeanette Boyd, circa 1884.4 William Horatio Dewing died on 24 November 1925 at Scotia, Schenectady Co., NY, at age 67.5 He was buried at Sauquoit Valley Cemetery, Clayville, Oneida Co., NY.5
From an obituary: Dr. William H. Dewing, 67, was one of the best known physicians in Oneida County and for nearly 40 years resident physician of the village of Clayville. Dr. Dewing was born in Litchfield, Herkimer County, June 4, 1858, son of George and Mary Ball Dewing. He died November 24, 1925 in Scotia, NY at the home of his son, George J. Dewing, after an illness of a year's duration. He married Miss Olive Van Auken. Dr. Dewing was educated in the public school of Litchfield and at Whitestown Seminary, from which he was graduated. He then entered Hahnemann College in Philadelphia, PA, and graduated from that institution with the degree of M. D. He had been health officer for the village of Clayville and the town of Paris since 1894. He was also a member of the Medical Reserve Board and of the Homeopathic Medical Society of Oneida County. For many years he had served on the Village Board and on the School Board. Dr. Dewing was sincerely devoted to his profession. He administered to hundreds of families in this vicinity. He was a physician of great ability and his services were in constant demand. He was a man of energy and regardless of the condition of roads or weather could be depended upon to respond to the call of his patients. The hills of Litchfield, Paris and Bridgewater found him a lone traveler on many winter nights, braving the fiercest storms to reach the bedside of his neighbors. During his residence here only twice was he beaten by the elements and forced to abandon his efforts. He never thought of compensation for his professional services, but only of the welfare of those to whom he ministered.5
