That location is also on his IL civil war muster roll. However, other records vary.....censuses for Francis mention both birth in Canada and PA, his daughter Harriet's death record has him born at sea, while her 1880 census shows him born PA and her 1900 census shows him born in England; son Francis on his 1900, 1910, and 1930 censuses has him born at sea; daughter Nettie on her 1900 census shows him born IA, but on her 1910 and 1920 censuses shows him born at sea.      Comment by DGB: A male Ball descendant of Francis E. Ball had his yDNA tested and the test results match other tests from Ball descendants of Alling Ball (died 1689) of New Haven CT. That does not necessarily mean Francis was directly descended from Alling Ball, but is of that Ball family or of its origins in England End of comment.
