     Henry George Root was born on 7 April 1842 at near Madison, Dane Co., Wisconsin Territory.¹ He was the son of William Simpson Root and Catherine Elizabeth Cook.¹ Henry George Root married Harriet Ann Goodyear, daughter of Joseph Darwin Goodyear and Sophina Wright, on 21 December 1873 at Hydesville, Humboldt Co., CA.¹ Henry George Root died on 15 April 1922 at near Wasco, Sherman Co., OR, at age 80.¹ He was buried at Sunrise Cemetery, near Wasco, Sherman Co., OR.¹
     He filed Homestead in Sherman County courthouse (Oregon) for NW ¼ of section 12 in township 1N of range 16 E in August 1883.¹

     Harriet Ann Goodyear was born on 29 May 1853 at Madison, Dane Co., WI.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Darwin Goodyear and Sophina Wright.¹ Harriet Ann Goodyear married Henry George Root, son of William Simpson Root and Catherine Elizabeth Cook, on 21 December 1873 at Hydesville, Humboldt Co., CA.¹ Harriet Ann Goodyear died on 2 July 1931 at Wasco, Sherman Co., OR, at age 78.¹ She was buried on 5 July 1931 at Sunrise Cemetery, near Wasco, Sherman Co., OR.¹
     Harriet Ann Goodyear was also known as Hattie.¹ As of 21 December 1873,her married name was Root. From an obituary in the "Sherman County News": Early Pioneer of Wasco Laid to Rest. Mrs. Harriet Root, wife and mother of a family prominent in Sherman County since pioneer days, and who died in her home west of Wasco Thursday, Ju1y 2, at the age of 78 years, was buried in the Wasco Cemetery Sunday following a Service in the local Methodist Episcopal Church. The services were led by the pastor, the Rev. N. Sherman Hawk, and were under the auspices of Annie Fulton Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of which the deceased was a member. Pallbearers were J.P. Yates, H.D. Proudfoot, Emil Anderson, Victor Anderson, A.J. Smith, Arther Sargent, Harry VanGilder and A-C. Kaseberg.
The deceased is survived 2 sons, Herbert Root of Wasco, and W.D. Root of Glendale, Calif. and a daughter, Mrs. H.E. Morrow of Kent, Wash., eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.¹

     He taught English at a government high school and while in Japan met his future wife between 1902 and 1905 at Tokyo, Japan.¹

     Nora Francis Root was born on 18 October 1876 at Hydesville, Humboldt Co., CA.¹ She was the daughter of Henry George Root and Harriet Ann Goodyear.¹ Nora Francis Root married Harry Edwin Morrow, son of John Morrow and Mary Shoup, on 20 November 1898 at Wasco, Sherman Co., OR.¹ Nora Francis Root died on 22 February 1946 at The Dalles, Wasco Co., OR, at age 69.¹ She was buried at IOOF Cemetery, The Dalles, Wasco Co., OR.¹
     As of 20 November 1898,her married name was Morrow.

     Harry Edwin Morrow was born on 21 October 1867 at Mt. Pulaski, Logan Co., IL.¹ He was the son of John Morrow and Mary Shoup.¹ Harry Edwin Morrow married Nora Francis Root, daughter of Henry George Root and Harriet Ann Goodyear, on 20 November 1898 at Wasco, Sherman Co., OR.¹ Harry Edwin Morrow died on 9 December 1953 at The Dalles, Wasco Co., OR, at age 86.¹ He was buried at IOOF Cemetery, The Dalles, Wasco Co., OR.¹

Sanders, son of Joseph Harry Sanders and Evelyn Maria Swank, on 24 April 1920 at Moro, Sherman Co., OR.¹ Francis Cleo Morrow died on 12 February 1989 at Spokane, Spokane Co., WA, at age 87.¹ She was buried at The Pines Cemetery, Spokane, Spokane Co., WA.¹

     Kara G. Smart was born on 21 July 1870 at East New York, New York Co., NY.¹ She was the daughter of Almon B. Smart and Ruby Jane Jordan.¹ Kara G. Smart married William Darwin Root, son of Henry George Root and Harriet Ann Goodyear, in 1906 at CA.¹ Kara G. Smart died on 19 March 1955 at Glendale, Los Angeles Co., CA, at age 84.¹
     Kara went to Japan October 16, 1902 as a missionary for the W.C.T.U. an organization she was associated with for many years.
In Japan, Darwin Root met Kara Smart and were later married in California. They had no children. She also served many years as Probation Officer with the City of Los Angeles.¹ As of 1906,her married name was Root.

Sanders died on 8 December 1940 at Alfala, Deschutes Co., OR, at age 52.¹

     Harold Rex Howell was born on 23 April 1905 at Kent, Sherman Co., OR.¹ He married Nona Beatrice Morrow, daughter of Harry Edwin Morrow and Nora Francis Root, on 16 February 1929 at Wasco, Sherman Co., OR.¹ Harold Rex Howell died on 11 April 1970 at Multnomah Co., OR, at age 64.¹ He was buried at IOOF Cemetery, The Dalles, Wasco Co., OR.¹
