     Comment by DGB: Several trees have Arvilla Ball having first married "Lifelet" Townsend and, indeed, at her marriage to Peter Strachan she is listed as widow Townsend. A son was born 14 Aug 1837 in Shefford to Eliphalet and Fanny Townsend. There was a marriage in Shefford of an Eliphalet Townsend of Brome, widower, and Elizabeth Lewis of Brome 2 May 1831. On the 19 Dec 1835 Elisha Townsend of Brome died and was buried at the Shefford Methodist Church; that burial record was witnessed by Arvilla Townsend and Abner Townsend. It is not clear as to which Townsend Arvilla Ball was married. End of comment. Her married name was Townsend. As of 22 January 1839,her married name was Strachan.
