James Harry Ball was the Mississagi lighthouse keeper from 1902 through 1913 on Manitoulin Island ON.3 From an obituary in "The Recorder": Gore Bay. An old pioneer of the Manitoulin died at Burford, Ontario, on July 11th; in the person of James Harry Ball. The late Mr. Ball was born near Caledonia on December 10th, 1857. He was educated in the Oneida Public School and the Caledonia High School. At an early age he went with his parents to Meldrum Bay and was engaged in the lumbering business, and was also keeper of the lighthouse for many years. In 1894 he married Miss Emma Foster of Postsmouth, England, and in 1913 moved to Brantford. After residing there for several years they then moved to Burford, where they have spent the past six years. The late Mr. Ball was highly esteemed by all who knew him and was regarded as one of Burford's most substantial citizens. He leaves to mourn his loss his widow and one son, Calvin; also two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Rispin of Echo Place and Mrs. Black, West Coniston, U.S.A.1
