Jacob Dillman Ball1
M, #58716, b. 4 January 1910, d. 16 April 1969
Jacob Dillman Ball was born on 4 January 1910 at Wayne, Cass Co., MI.1 He was the son of Asa Davis Ball and Grace Nancy Dillman.1 Jacob Dillman Ball was baptized on 7 December 1946 at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Dowagiac, Cass Co., MI.1 He married Louisa Chloe Reiske, daughter of Frederick William Reiske and Edith Jane Singleton, on 8 April 1937 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., IN.1 Jacob Dillman Ball died on 16 April 1969 at Niles, Berrien Co., MI, at age 59.1 He was buried at Dewey Cemetery, Dowagiac, Cass Co., MI.1
He , when born, was given the birth name of 'J' Dillman, with no designation of what the 'J' meant. Initially, as he grew up, he said the 'J' was actually 'Jay'. On March 1, 1941 he had the name corrected to 'Jacob' after his maternal Grandfather, Jacob Dillman. It wasn't a legal name change and he was known as 'Dillman' by most of is family during his early life and only took the name 'Jacob', or 'Jake' as his 'call me' name, which led to the 'correction' in 1941. The document making the correction is registered in Cass County court records, Book C, page 310, Record No. 61-2.1 From an obituary in the "South Bend Tribune": Jacob Dillman Ball, 59, 1836 River Bluff Road, Niles, died 1:50 pm Wednesday, in Pawating Hospital in Niles, following a year's illness. He was formerly from Dowagiac. He was born January 4, 1910 in Wayne Township, the son of Asa and Grace Dillman Ball. His marriage to Louisa Reiske of Dowagiac took place April 8, 1937 in South Bend, IN, and who survives him. They moved to Niles from Dowagiac, eight years ago. He had been employed by the Clark Equipment Company for the past 25 years. He was active in the Niles Township-Morris Farms Volunteer Fire Department; was past president of the Berrien County Firemen's Association and for many years was First Aid director for the health and safety committee of the White Beaver Boy Scout District. He had always been active in Scouting. A descendant of pioneer Wayne Township [Cass County] residents, he was a charter member of the Cass County Historical Society. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Davis Ball, serving with the U.S. Air Force in Colorado; Robert L. Ball of Niles; Daniel G Ball of the U. S. Navy at Los Angeles; and two daughters, Mrs Leroy (Nancy) Harman of Niles, and Susan, at home. He also leaves a brother and sister ,John Ball, and Mrs Raymond Hutson of Dowagiac, and eight grandchildren.1

Louisa Chloe Reiske1
F, #58720, b. 21 November 1916, d. 4 September 2007
Louisa Chloe Reiske was born on 21 November 1916 at Ridgewood, Queens Co., NY.1 She was the daughter of Frederick William Reiske and Edith Jane Singleton.1 Louisa Chloe Reiske was baptized on 7 December 1946 at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Dowagiac, Cass Co., MI.1 She married Jacob Dillman Ball, son of Asa Davis Ball and Grace Nancy Dillman, on 8 April 1937 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., IN.1 Louisa Chloe Reiske died on 4 September 2007 at Niles, Berrien Co., MI, at age 90.1 She was buried at Dewey Cemetery, Dowagiac, Cass Co., MI.1
She was raised by professional entertainers (New York stage, touring company, etc.), her mother was very young when both retired to get married, with her father going into Life Insurance sales and her Mom staying at home. Louisa showed a high talent for clothing design, but 'was not encouraged' by her dad. Later, she was a 'from the audience' guest singer for the Red Nichols band one evening and based on that performance was offered a job. Again, discouraged by her parents from such a life, she didn't pursue it. While in Lafayette, Indiana, she was a vocalist for the local church and was featured on the church's program on Lafayette's radio station WASK, where she became more popular than the pastor because of her skills as a vocalist (mainly acappella) singing the old hymns.1 As of 8 April 1937,her married name was Ball. From an obituary in the "South Bend Tribune": Louisa Chloe (Reiske) Ball, 90, of Mandrake Drive in Niles, passed away at Lakeland Hospital in Niles on September 4, 2007, following an illness. Louisa was born on November 21, 1916, to the late Frederick and Edith (Singleton) Reiske in Queens, NY. She was one of two children. After graduating from Dowagiac High School in 1936, she wed the love of her life, Jacob Dillman Ball, at a ceremony in South Bend, IN. Together they had five children. Louisa was a homemaker for most of life and enjoyed all aspects including cooking and baking. She also owned and operated The Home Café on Wayne Street for several years. Louisa loved traveling and decided to drive and deliver RVs for Morgan Drive Away in Elkhart. She was given the CB handle God's Angel. Her hobbies included roller skating, knitting, crocheting and camping. Louisa entertained many with her voice and ability to sing which she had inherited from her parents, both opera singers. More than anything, Louisa loved spending time with her family. She was a devoted member of Niles Westside Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jacob Ball; a daughter Susan Ball; and brother William Reiske. Louisa is survived by her children, Davis F. (Helen) Ball of San Antonio, TX, Nancy (Lew) Harman of Niles, MI, Robert L. Ball of Wisconsin and Daniel G. (Sherry) Ball of Dallas, TX; 12 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A private interment will be held at Dewey Cemetery in Pokagon Township.1
