Mr. Baird, who was 72, died in Mercy Hospital, September 5. He was born in Kansas and lived in California for 60 years. The family lived in the Calipatria area for many years before moving to Santee, Calif. While in the Valley Baird had been a Zanjero for the Imperial Irrigation District, serving for 45 years before his retirement.
He was a member of the Calipatria Community Church and was a member of the International Order of Forresters.
He is survived by his widow, Alene Baird of Santee; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Carl, San Diego; Mrs. Greta Jones, Santee; and Mrs. Robert Burkholder of Costa Mesa; two sons, Charles of North Highlands; and Robert, who is in the service and stationed at Ft. Sill, Okla; and 10 grandchildren.1'
