     From and obituary in the "Bangor Daily News": BAILEYVILLE - James W. Thornton, 70, went to be with his Lord on March 13, 2003, at a Calais hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Topsfield, the son of Verne and Leona (Egan) Thornton. Through his life he had been employed by St. Croix Paper, Dead River, Dicenzo and the Town of Baileyville. He was a fun-loving man, who was always willing to lend a helping hand, and visit those who were ill. In his younger years he was an avid fisherman and most recently enjoyed listening to his gospel tapes. He enjoyed time spent with his dog, Dixie, and especially loved being with his family and friends. He is survived by his love and lifetime companion, Madelene Perkins; two sisters, Margaret and her husband, Lee Phelps, of Topsfield and Ida Renaud of Waite; six nephews, one niece and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by Madelene's sisters and families, who he considered part of his special family. He also leaves behind many friends, including a boyhood friend, Elwin Severance. Family and friends will have many fond memories of good times spent with 'Jim.' Graveside services at the Waite and Talmadge Cemetery will be announced at a later date.¹
