     Sea Captain Chase Bryant was the captain of the brig "Black Squall". His brother-in-law, Joseph Wilder, built the brig. Captain Bryant died of yellow fever on a trip back from the West Indies.¹

     During World War 1 he was a 1st Lt. in the Maine National Guard Dental Corps. He was appointed Captain on 10 March 1919. Se served overseas from 9 September 1917 to 10 April 1919. he was discharged 29 April 1919.¹
