Ball for many years a resident in the vicinity of West Concord passed away at her home in Minneapolis on Tuesday, December 31st, 1940, at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 10 days. The cause of her death was high blood pressure which affected the heart. Augusta F. Smith was born in Leon, Cattaraugus Co., New York, on July 21, 1849, and came with her parents to Iowa in the year 1854, where she grew to young womanhood. On Christmas day in the year 1867 she was united in marriage to Joseph D. Ball at Decorah, Ia., and the young couple in the same year came to Minnesota, settling on a farm near St. Charles, Winona Co. In 1895 they moved to West Concord, Dodge Co., remaining there until the year 1911, when they purchased a home at 3105 20th Ave. So., in Minneapolis, which had been her residence since. Here in January of 1923, Mr. Ball passed away.
Mrs. Ball was a member of the Baptist church in West Concord, but on moving to Minneapolis took her letter and united with the Vine Congregational church near the home. For many years she was an active worker in the Woman's Relief Corps and the Order of Easter Star. Deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Nellie B. Smith of West Concord, one son, Dwight who lived with his mother and a brother, Lynden, of Washington. A son, Monroe J., passed away in the year 1919. The funeral services were held in Minneapolis on Thursday afternoon, January 2, at the Anderson Bros. chapel and the remains brought to West Concord Friday morning and taken to the Concord cemetery for burial with D. McGowan in charge.1
