     Comment by DGB: There was a John Balls family aboard the Brig "Powhatan" which sailed from England to New York, arriving 27 May 1830. That family was part of a group of about 100 people who left the villages of North and South Lophan, Norfolk, England to come to America. Several of the families from that voyage settled in West Newbury MA. It is not known whether the Balls family on that voyage was the same as this one, nor is it known whether this John and Mary Balls left Newbury MA to head west or to return home to England.
