From an obituary in the "Vinton News": Mrs. Adaline Smith Ball, 86, long identified as an interesed and generous patron of the Iowa School for the Blind here, died at her home yesterday at 6:05 p.m. following an extended illness. She had established a $1,000 endowment fund known as the Allbright-Ball memorial fund in memory of her own two sightless daughters. This fund was established for the purpose of aiding School for the Blind graduates to obtain a higher education.
     The daughter of Herman and Jane West Smith, Adaline Smith Ball was born Feb. 5, 1851 at Delavan, Wis. She came to Fayette County, Iowa, with her parents at the age of two. On Sept. 29, 1869, she was married to J. W. Allbright, who died after a short illness in 1874. One son died in infancy and the two daughters, who lost their sight by illness, died at the ages of nine and 15. On Nov. 19, 1885, she was married to Jube H. Ball. Two sons born to this union died, Charles Francis at the age of three, and Jub, Jr., at the age of 27. Her late husband passed away Nov. 22, 1923. Surviving are two nephews: Franklyn S. Smith, Hood River, Ore., and Charles E. Smith of St. Paul, Minn; 15 grandchildren, and the following step-children: Mrs. N. P. Knight, Long Beach, Cal; W. H. Ball, Chicago, Ill; and J. R. Ball, LaGrange, Ill.³

     Jube Henry Ball was born on 27 May 1888 at Vinton, Benton Co., IA.² He was the son of Jube Henry Ball and Adaline Clarrisa Smith.³ Jube Henry Ball married Frances Marie Siples, daughter of Samuel Edmund Siples and Etha Florence Cougir, on 11 October 1911 at Marion, Linn Co., IA.¹ Jube Henry Ball died on 11 May 1915 at age 26.⁴ He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, Benton Co., IA.⁴
