     Elijah Ball was born on 2 March 1747/48 at Holden, Worcester Co., MA.2 He was the son of Phinehas Ball and Martha Bixby.1 Elijah Ball married Rebecca Moore, daughter of Levi Moore and Rebecca Sawyer, on 18 October 1770 at Lancaster, Worcester Co., MA; "Rebecca Moor."3 Elijah Ball and Rebecca Moore posted marriage intentions on 21 September 1770 at Lancaster, Worcester Co., MA; "Rebecca Moor."4 Elijah Ball died on 10 November 1834 at Boylston, Worcester Co., MA, at age 86.5 He was buried at Old Cemetery, Boylston, Worcester Co., MA.1
     He was born in Holden, in that part of the town later set off to Princeton. He acquired property, built a house and after his marriage established a home in Lancaster, in the part of the town first set off to Shrewsbury and later to Boylston, located on what is now (1932) known as Mile Hill Road about one mile southerly from the Wachusett Reservoir. The home where his wife, Rebecca, was born and before her, one or more generations of the Moore family lived, is now buried many feet deep by the water of the said Wachusett Reservoir.1 His Revolutionary War record was as follows: "Minute Man under Capt. Benjamin Houghton of Lancaster in Col. John Whitcomb's Regiment. Marched on alarm of Apr. 19, 1775. Service 9-1/2 days." "Corporal in 1778 under Capt. Samuel Sawyer of Lancaster, in Col. Jonathan Smith's Regiment, Commanded by Lt. Col. Robert Longley of Bolton. Was in action at Keps Bay, Sept. 15, 1776, when four of the 80 men were missing in retreat. Enlisted for four months from July 22, 1776. Term of service to Dec. 1, 1776." "Sergeant in Capt. Greenleaf's Company, Col. Job Cushing's Regiment. Enlisted Sept. 3, 1777; discharged Nov. 29, 1777. Service 3 months, 7 days." "Commissioned 1st Lieutenant, 5th Company, Col. Josiah Whitney's (2nd Worcester) Regiment on June 17, 1779."1
