     Samuel Ball was born on 10 July 1763 at Rutland, Worcester Co., MA.2 He was the son of Thomas Ball and Rebecca Parmenter.1 Samuel Ball and Hannah Ranger posted marriage intentions on 20 January 1789 at Brookfield, Worcester Co., MA; "Hannah Rainger."3 Samuel Ball and Hannah Ranger posted marriage intentions on 18 December 1788 at Rutland, Worcester Co., MA.4 Samuel Ball died on 20 May 1839 at Alstead, Cheshire Co., NH, at age 75.1 He was buried at Old Cemetery, East Alstead, Cheshire Co., NH.1
     They located in Alstead, NH in 1790. He enlisted in the Revolutionary War, May 25, 1776, at South Hadley as a privated in a regiment raised for the defense of Boston. He also enlisted in the Continental Army for three years, 1777-1780, whe n he was discharged. He saw service in the northern campaign in and around West Point, New York. While a Captain in the Continental Army, Benedict Arnold in a fis of anger, struck him with his sword. Samuel grasped a rifel and would have shot Arnol d on the spot had he not been prevented from doing do by Samuel's lieutenant.1
