     James Ball was born on 1 January 1764 at Townsend, Middlesex Co., MA.2 He was the son of Lt. Jeremiah Ball and Mary Stevens.1 James Ball married Hepzibah Shattuck on 1 January 1789.1 James Ball married Rebecca Shattuck on 17 November 1791.1 James Ball died on 15 August 1850 at age 86.1
     He was a refugee of Shay's Rebellion and escaped into New Hampshire in 1787, where he built a home half way up Robb Mountain, near Antrim NH. They resided in Antrim, NH. He married Hepzibah Shattuck and when she died he married Rebecca Shattuck, Hepzibah's first cousin. Rebecca had two small sons, from a previous marriage, come to live in Antrim in 1796.1
