     He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Baltimore, MD, in 1911.¹ He graduated from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, in 1913 where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering, finishing the 4 year course with honors in two years.¹ He was in the military between 1917 and 1919 serving with the US Army US Signal Corps - Co. E 2nd (later became 407th) Tel. Unit. Overseas in the second convoy to Europe Aug 7, 1917, attacked by submarines in Bay of Biscay. He constructed and maintained communications in France (AEF) and in Germany (Army of Occupation). His rank progress: private at enlistments, master signal electician during most of the war, and 2nd Lieut. at time of return.¹

     Harvey Fessenden McLaughlin was born on 8 September 1895 at Baltimore, MD.¹ He was the son of George Edwin McLaughlin and Cora Josephine Fessenden.¹ Harvey Fessenden McLaughlin married Helen Wilson Dawson, daughter of Clarence H. Dawson and Martha Frances Wilson, on 3 October 1928 at Peoria, Peoria Co., IL.¹ Harvey Fessenden McLaughlin died on 3 July 1996 at Hockessin, New Castle Co., DE, at age 100.¹ He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Baltimore, MD; after cremation.¹

He was on the train to the front the day the war ended, so actually saw no fighting.¹ He was educated between 1918 and 1919 at Toulouse University, Toulouse, France; after the war, it was impossible to ship everyone home at once, so they were given the opportunity to stay in France and go to school, which Harvey decided to do.¹

     Delma Justina McLaughlin was born on 10 October 1897 at Baltimore, MD.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Edwin McLaughlin and Cora Josephine Fessenden.¹ Delma Justina McLaughlin married Francis Willis Erdman, son of Harry Stone Erdman and Florence Chase, on 13 November 1920 at Baltimore, MD.¹ Delma Justina McLaughlin died on 26 November 1993 at age 96; SSDI lists last residence as Washington, DC.² She was buried at Druid Ridge Cemetery, Baltimore, MD; following cremation (other information indicates burial on 4 December 1993 in Washington, DC.)¹

     He was a representative in the state legislature; town clerk for 25 years, and justice of the peace for 40 years at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.¹ He was a United States custom house officer on the Canadian line under President Polk.¹ Ephraim nearly lost his life by falling into the Connecticut River and was sinking when rescued by his son Chester Curtis Rice.¹
