     Joab Johnson was born on 9 March 1765 at Hardwick, Worcester Co., MA.² He was the son of Zebediah Johnson and Alice Merrick.² Joab Johnson married Jemima Ball, daughter of David Ball and Sarah Badcock, circa June 1792 at Wilmington, Windham Co., VT.¹ Joab Johnson died on 6 May 1840 at Dover, Windham Co., VT, at age 75.¹ He was buried at Hathaway Cemetery, West Dover, Windham Co., VT.¹

     Jemima Ball was born on 22 August 1772 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA.² She was the daughter of David Ball and Sarah Badcock.¹ Jemima Ball married Joab Johnson, son of Zebediah Johnson and Alice Merrick, circa June 1792 at Wilmington, Windham Co., VT.¹ Jemima Ball died on 25 March 1816 at Dover, Windham Co., VT, at age 43.¹ She was buried at Hathaway Cemetery, West Dover, Windham Co., VT.¹
     As of circa June 1792,her married name was Johnson.

     David Ball was born circa 1727 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA.² He married Sarah Badcock, daughter of George Badcock and Elizabeth Waste, on 8 November 1753 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA.³ David Ball married Mary (????) before 1790.⁴ David Ball died on 13 February 1807 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.² He was buried at Riverview Cemetery, Wilmington, Windham Co., VT.⁵
     Comment by DGB: The notion has been put forth that David Ball was born in Watertown 17 January 1716/17 to Joseph and Elizabeth (Parkhurst) Ball who then moved to Framingham. This premise is a possibility according to the birth and death dates of these men. However, other than the fact that David Ball of Watertown disappears from the records shortly before David Ball of Dartmouth first appears, there is no proof that the two men are in any way connected. In fact, the children of David of Watertown do not appear with David of Dartmouth. Furthermore, the David Ball of Framingham seems to have left a widow behind by 1761.
     More interesting is that DNA testing of a descendant of David, from the lineage through his son Noah and grandson David who moved to Canada, indicates that the Dartmouth MA David Ball was a descendant of Edward Ball (c1642-c1724) and Abigail Blatchley of Newark NJ. While there needs to be a confirming DNA test from a descendant of a different grandson of David Ball, this presents a very new perspective on the ancestry of this David Ball. End of comment.⁴ David Ball was at one time a weaver as seen by deed when he sold the land his wife received from her father "Know all men by these presents that we David Baul of Dartmouth in the County of Bristol in the State of Massachusetts Bay in Newengland weaver & Sarah Baul my wife in Consideration of the Just Sum of Two Thousand & one hundred Pounds Current money to us in hand paid by Goddard Spencer ... in witness whereof we do hereunto Set our hands and Seals this 24th Day of April, Ano Domini one thousand Seven hundred and eighty". This land was that given the couple by George Badcock as the descriptions are identical and was the land where David and Sarah lived. Therefore they probably sold it just prior to moving to Vermont. That nineteen acres of land could sell for over two thousand pounds in 1780 sounds incredible. The pound must have experienced a great deal of devaluation due to the war with England. The spelling of "Baul" instead of "Ball" in these documents was not necessarily the way David spelled his name, but was more likely the interpretation of the spelling given by the county clerks who recorded the deeds.⁴ David and Sarah Ball were living in Wilmington, Vt. in 1785 when Sarah died. It is thought that they moved to Wilmington in 1781, which seems likely as they sold their Dartmouth land in 1780.⁴ David had remarried by 1790 as seen by the following deed. "Know all Men by these presents that we David Ball of Wilmington in ye State of Vermont yeoman, & Mary his wife, in consideration of Ten Pounds lawfull money paid us before ye sealing hereof by Hedijah Baylies of Dighton in ye County of Bristol in ye Commonwealth of Massachusetts Esqr. the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge do hereby give grant sell and convey to ye said Hedijah & to his heirs & assigns allow right title and interest in & to a certain Dwelling house & about seven acres of Land Scituate in Taunton in sd County of Bristol, being what was set off to ye said Mary as part of her right of Dower in ye Estate of her late husband Daniel Lincoln Decd ... Witness our hands & seals this Thirtieth Day of November Anno Domini Seventeen Hundred Ninety".⁴

     Sarah Badcock was born on 4 September 1733 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA.² She was the daughter of George Badcock and Elizabeth Waste.³ Sarah Badcock married David Ball on 8 November 1753 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA.⁴ Sarah Badcock died on 22 November 1785 at Wilmington, Windham Co., VT, at age 52.⁵
     As of 8 November 1753,her married name was Ball.

     Warren Oldroyd Ball was born on 8 December 1919.¹ He was the son of Allison Petrie Ball and Agnes Oldroyd.¹

     Susannah Rice was born on 25 November 1784 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.¹ She was the daughter of Daniel Rice and Sarah Ball.¹

     Jemima Rice was born on 15 February 1787 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT; died young.¹ She was the daughter of Daniel Rice and Sarah Ball.¹

     Hazelton Rice was born on 26 February 1788 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT; age at death 82y 5m 17d.¹ He was the son of Daniel Rice and Sarah Ball.¹ Hazelton Rice married Rhoda Stone, daughter of Jonathan Stone and Cloe Hazeltine, on 9 April 1809 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.¹ Hazelton Rice died on 15 August 1870 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT, at age 82.¹ He was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, near West Dover, Windham Co., VT.¹

     Rhoda Stone was born on 11 December 1782 at Sutton, Worcester Co., MA.¹ She was the daughter of Jonathan Stone and Cloe Hazeltine.¹ Rhoda Stone married Hazelton Rice, son of Daniel Rice and Sarah Ball, on 9 April 1809 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.¹ Rhoda Stone died on 13 August 1846 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT, at age 63.¹ She was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, near West Dover, Windham Co., VT.¹

     David Rice was born on 3 March 1790 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.¹ He was the son of Daniel Rice and Sarah Ball.¹ David Rice married Meribah Cobb, daughter of Nathan Cobb and Sally Palmer, on 11 January 1816 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.¹ David Rice died on 12 May 1872 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT, at age 82.¹ He was buried at Snow Cemetery, West Dover, Windham Co., VT.¹

     Meribah Cobb was born on 7 March 1790 at VT.¹ She was the daughter of Nathan Cobb and Sally Palmer.¹ Meribah Cobb married David Rice, son of Daniel Rice and Sarah Ball, on 11 January 1816 at Somerset, Windham Co., VT.¹ Meribah Cobb died on 23 December 1867 at Dover, Windham Co., VT, at age 77.¹ She was buried at Rice Cemetery, Dover, Windham Co., VT.¹
