     Comment by DGB: It is possible that her maiden name was Forrester and her middle name Gulick, but more likely that she had earlier married a Mr. Forrester. End of comment. Her married name was Eckman.

     Mary Louisa Ball was born on 2 April 1829 at Parsippany, Morris Co., NJ.¹ She was the daughter of Isaac Ball and Sarah Burnet.¹ Mary Louisa Ball married Lewis Beam Hiler, son of John Hiler and Ruth Garrigus, on 13 February 1855.¹ Mary Louisa Ball died on 12 April 1869 at age 40.¹
     As of 13 February 1855,her married name was Hiler.

     Dora Emily Hiler was born on 5 April 1858 at NJ.¹ She was the daughter of Lewis Beam Hiler and Mary Louisa Ball.¹ Dora Emily Hiler died on 10 February 1933 at Ridgewood, Bergen Co., NJ, at age 74.¹

     Anna J. Hiler was born on 20 February 1863 at Rockaway, Morris Co., NJ.¹ She was the daughter of Lewis Beam Hiler and Mary Louisa Ball.¹ Anna J. Hiler married Leslie Daniel, son of Edwin M. Daniel, in 1902 at Plainfield, Union Co., NJ.¹ Anna J. Hiler died in 1914.¹
     As of 1902,her married name was Daniel.

     Leslie Daniel was born circa 1858 at NY.² He was the son of Edwin M. Daniel.² Leslie Daniel married Anna J. Hiler, daughter of Lewis Beam Hiler and Mary Louisa Ball, in 1902 at Plainfield, Union Co., NJ.¹
     Leslie Daniel became mayor of Plainfield, NJ. He was married first before 1885 and may have been married a third time.¹

     Ruth Garrigus was born on 8 September 1796 at Rockaway, Morris Co., NJ.¹ She married John Hiler on 18 April 1818 at Morris Co., NJ.¹ Ruth Garrigus died on 19 March 1871 at Rockaway, Morris Co., NJ, at age 74.¹
     As of 18 April 1818,her married name was Hiler.

     Isaac Ball was born on 17 August 1783 at Hanover, Morris Co., NJ.^1,2 He was the son of Jacob Ball and Mary Vergenson.¹ Isaac Ball was baptized on 4 July 1791 at First Presbyterian Church, Hanover, Morris Co., NJ.¹ He married Sarah Burnet, daughter of Ralph Burnet and Rachel Crane, on 10 December 1805 at Hanover, Morris Co., NJ.¹ Isaac Ball married Eliza Tuttle on 25 June 1838.¹ Isaac Ball died on 8 February 1855 at Hanover, Morris Co., NJ, at age 71.^1,2

     Jacob Ball was born on 24 February 1748/49 at Hanover, Morris Co., NJ.^1,2 He was the son of Joshua Ball and Phebe Carman.¹ Jacob Ball married Mary Vergenson on 5 March 1770.¹ Jacob Ball died on 29 November 1809 at NJ at age 60; his gravestone lists the death year as 1808.¹ He was buried at First Presbyterian Church, Morristown, Morris Co., NJ.¹
     He served as a private in Capt. Isaac Halsey's militia. Parsippany in 1776; Capt. David Bates Company of Minute Men; Colonel Sylvanus Seeley's Battalion, Morris Co., N.J. militia.¹

     Mary Vergenson was born on 13 March 1751/52.¹ She married Jacob Ball, son of Joshua Ball and Phebe Carman, on 5 March 1770.¹ Mary Vergenson died on 14 May 1833 at Morristown, Morris Co., NJ, at age 81.^1,2
     Her surname could be "Vergason." As of 5 March 1770,her married name was Ball.

     Joshua Ball was born circa 1723 at NJ.¹ He was the son of Caleb Ball and Elizabeth Peck.¹ Joshua Ball married Phebe Carman on 25 November 1746.¹ Joshua Ball married Martha (????) on 7 September 1760.¹ Joshua Ball died on 16 February 1773 at Hanover, Morris Co., NJ.¹
     He at a trial in Sussex Co. Court, NJ on a charge of manslaughter was found not guilty in August 1754 at NJ.¹

     Phebe Carman married Joshua Ball, son of Caleb Ball and Elizabeth Peck, on 25 November 1746.¹ Phebe Carman died on 31 December 1758.¹
     As of 25 November 1746,her married name was Ball.

     Sarah Thompson married Caleb Ball, son of Edward Ball and Abigail Blatchley.¹ Sarah Thompson died in 1707.¹

     Caleb Ball was born circa 1664 at Branford, New Haven Co., CT.² He was the son of Edward Ball and Abigail Blatchley.¹ Caleb Ball married Sarah Thompson.¹ Caleb Ball died circa 1716 at Millbrook, Essex Co., NJ.¹

     Edward Ball was born circa 1642.¹ He married Abigail Blatchley, daughter of Thomas Blatchley and Susannah Ball, circa 1664 at Branford, New Haven Co., CT.¹ Edward Ball died circa 1724 at Essex Co., NJ; he was living in June, 1724, being then at an advanced age.¹
     Some have claimed that Edward Ball, who was at Branford, Connecticut in 1666 and removed to Newark, N.J., was a son of Alling Ball, the immigrant to New Haven CT. Since there was no probation of Alling's estate, Edward's name would have figured in conveyances of Ball property if he had been Alling's son. The name of Edward does not occur in any New Haven record, and although that is not conclusive, the presumption is that he was not a son son of Alling. Births of the three known sons of Alling were all recorded; and of these, only John and Alling left issue. Only John and Alling were mentioned in deeds of their first cousin, Hannah (Russell) Kimberly.
     Comment by DGB: Further weight against such a direct relationship comes from Edward marrying the daughter of Alling Ball, Sr.'s sister Susannah (Ball) Blatchely. If Edward were a son of Alling Ball, Sr., he would have married his first cousin, a practice that was certainly frowned upon. End of comment.² Edward Ball was at Branford CT 30 October 1666 on which day the heads of families designing to remove to Newark NJ signed an agreement, the most noticeable article of which was not to admit as freemen, etc., any but church members. In 1667 he was at Newark NJ and was assessed in the first list of taxables.³

     Thomas Blatchley was born circa 1615 at England.¹ He married Susannah Ball, daughter of Alling Ball, on 5 June 1643 at New Haven Co., CT.¹ Thomas Blatchley died on 15 February 1673/74 at Boston, Suffolk Co., MA; he died in Branford CT 1672, according to New Haven probate records. The will was not settled until 1674, when the court described Thomas as deceased in Boston.¹
     "THEIS persons hereunder expressed are to be transported to New England, imbarqued in the HOPEWELL, of London, THOMAS BABB, Mr., p. Certificate from the Minister of St. Giles', Cripplegate, that they are conformable to the Church of England, the men have taken the oaths of allegeance and supremacie." Tho. Tredwell, a smith, 30; Mary Tredwell, 30; Tho. Blackly, 20; Tho. Tredwell, 1.² Thomas probably landed in Massachusetts, but by 1 May 1637 Thomas was at Hartford CT, where he was one of the initial soldiers signed for the first Pequot Indian War.¹ He signed the Newark NJ covenant, but likely never lived there on 30 October 1665.¹ 'Goodman Blachley' was admitted an inhabitant of Guilford 23 April 1668, 'if he can provide himself a place to dwell in'. He was elected Deputy to the General Court, from Branford, in May 1667, Oct 1668, and Oct 1669, but was absent from all these sessions. He was a man of influence in the colony, and served in a number of sessions of the General Court, from May 1670. In that month, the General Court granted him 60 acres of land where he could find it, on the usual terms.¹ The children of Thomas Blatchley, late deceased in Boston, and their mother Susanna agreed to division of the rest of estate equally among the children of the deceased 12 June 1674.¹
