Mary Frances Shute was also known as Mary Frances Schuett.1 As of 24 February 1863,her married name was Smith.1 From a Mauston newspaper obituary: Mrs. Luther C. Smith passed away at the home of her son, George E. Smith, in the town of Lemonweir, Tuesday morning, March 26, 1935. When called from this earth by her Heavenly Father she lacked but one day of observing her 92nd birthday. Mary Frances Schuett was born in Ohio on March 27, 1843, and came to Wisconsin with her parents, the late Elbridge and Sarah Schuett. They made the journey by ox team, settling in the town of Lemonweir. Most of her life was spent near Mauston in that township, with the exception of a few years spent with her granddaughter, Esther Smith at Columbus. She was the last member of the Schuett family. At an early age she was united in marriage in this city to Luther C. Smith, who preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1912. To this union nine children were born, six boys and three girls. George E. Reuben, Allan, Frank, Nora and Lizzie preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith enjoyed remarkable health and was ill but a day before her death. She was one of the few remaining pioneer settlers of this county. At an early age she joined the Methodist church and until the last few years took a keen interest in their activities. She was a woman who enjoyed the friendship and respect of al who knew her, and her many deeds of kindness and charity will long be remembered. Funeral services were held from the Buglass school house last Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Alfred B. Nimz, officiating. Burial was in the Rose cemetery in Lemonweir. The pall bearers were six of her grandsons, Roy, Claude, Jesse, Clarence and Frank Smith and Henry Koblitz.
