Nancy Reynolds1
F, #12593, b. 12 December 1915, d. 30 January 2005
Nancy Reynolds was born on 12 December 1915 at NY.1,2 She was the daughter of George Greenwood Reynolds and Lucy Blake Clapp.1 Nancy Reynolds married James Negley Cooke, son of James Cooke.2 Nancy Reynolds married Gordon M. Booth on 7 January 1985 at Stowe, Lamoille Co., VT.2 Nancy Reynolds died on 30 January 2005 at Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Co., CA, at age 89.2
Her married name was Cooke. As of 7 January 1985,her married name was Booth.2 From an obituary in the "Santa Barbara News-Press": Nancy died peacefully at Casa Dorinda on January 30th, 2005. She was born on December 12, 1915, and raised in Montclair, New Jersey. She went away to boarding school at St. Margarets School in Waterbury, Connecticut, and went on to Bennington College, in Bennington, Vermont, where she was a member of the class of 1937. Years later she would become a Trustee of that College and continued to serve as same for many years. It was in her college days that Nancy took up skiing. She soon went into ski racing, and, with her dedication, determination, and acquired skill, she was eventually selected along with three other girls, for the U.S. Ski Team. She trained to go to the 1940 Olympics, which, however, were called off due to World War II. It was her achievement and contribution to the sport of skiing over her career that caused Nancy to be named to the Ski Hall of Fame in 1972. In 1941, Nancy was married to James "Cookie" Negley Cooke, and they lived in Brattleboro, VT, Armonk, NY, and Stowe, VT, respectively. After Cookie passed away, a new life for Nancy began when she met Gordon M. Booth, native of Los Angeles, and cofounder of Booth and Simpson Insurance Company, meeting on an international golf tour. They were married in Stowe, VT on January 7th, 1985, and new life came to Santa Barbara in many ways. They lived first on Padaro Lane in Carpinteria, then they moved to a house in Birnam Wood, Montecito, which Nancy helped design and they built together -- and then they moved on to Casa Dorinda, also in Montecito. Nancy was a dedicated and accomplished photographer. She and Gordon traveled extensively -- and played golf, especially at Birnam Wood and the Valley Club and on their travels overseas. They also enjoyed playing bridge. For fifteen years Nancy was an active and subsequently sustaining member of the Music Academy of the West. Nancy was more than just "active" in her life: she was a totally dynamic and motivating force, and her vitality and her unreserved love were felt -- and now her presence and energy will be sorely missed -- by family and friends, near and far. Nancy is survived by her husband Gordon and her brother Blake, and her two sons, Peter and Chris. A private family memorial service is planned on the east coast.2
