     Jonas Ball was born circa 1725 at Vauxhall, Essex Co., NJ.¹ He was the son of Thomas Ball and Sarah Davis.¹ Jonas Ball married Hannah Bruen, daughter of John Bruen and Mary Tomkins.¹ Jonas Ball died in 1787 at Headleytown (near Irvington), NJ.¹ He was buried at Presbyterian Churchyard, Union, NJ.¹
     He and Hannah Bruen are thought to have had 18 children, seven of which died young.¹

     Thomas Ball was born circa 1731.¹ He was the son of Thomas Ball and Sarah Davis.¹ Thomas Ball married Mary Crane, daughter of Isaac Crane and Martha (????), circa 1758.¹ Thomas Ball died on 20 May 1806 at Newark, Essex Co., NJ.¹ He was buried at Presbyterian Churchyard, Union, NJ.¹
     He was a surveyor. About 1769 he received an appointment as Deputy Surveyor under William Alexander (Lord Stirling) Surveyor Geneneral of East Jersey. Thomas was employed by large land owners to locate and sell their vacant lands.¹ He was an orderly sergeant of Capt. Isaac Gillam's Company and was employed in the Commissary Department. Thomas was issuing commissioner at Newark 1780-81 and Quartermaster 1781-82. He took part in the battles of Springfield and Connecticut Farms.¹

     Amos Ball was born circa 1733.¹ He was the son of Thomas Ball and Sarah Davis.¹ Amos Ball died in 1785.¹

     Moses Ball was born circa 1735 at Essex Co., NJ.¹ He was the son of Thomas Ball and Sarah Davis.¹ Moses Ball died in 1775 at NJ.¹
     Comment by DGB: Some suggest that the wife of Moses was Lucretia Dalglish, but it is more likely that Lucretia married the Moses Ball son of John Ball, since this Moses would only have been about age 15 in 1750 when that marriage occured. End of comment.

     Mary Ball was born on 4 June 1726 at Hilton, Essex Co., NJ.¹ She was the daughter of Thomas Ball and Sarah Davis.¹ Mary Ball married John Bruen, son of John Bruen and Mary Tomkins.¹ Mary Ball married Thomas Longworth, son of Thomas Longworth, after 1759.¹ Mary Ball died on 7 July 1817 at Newark, Essex Co., NJ, at age 91.¹ She was buried at Old Burying Ground, Newark, Essex Co., NJ.¹
     Her married name was Bruen. As of after 1759,her married name was Longworth.

     Rachel Ball was born circa 1729 at Connecticut Farms, Union Co., NJ.¹ She was the daughter of Thomas Ball and Sarah Davis.¹ Rachel Ball married Samuel Headley, son of Samuel Headley and Mary (????).¹ Rachel Ball died in 1750.¹ She was buried at Presbyterian Churchyard, Union, NJ.¹
     She had two sons, said to have died soon after their mother.¹ Her married name was Headley.

     Apphia Ball was born circa 1717 at Newark, Essex Co., NJ.¹ She was the daughter of Thomas Ball and Sarah Davis.¹ Apphia Ball married Simon Searing, son of Simon Searing and Alse (????), circa 1735 at Elizabethtown, Union Co., NJ.^1,2 Apphia Ball died in 1785 at Elizabethtown, Union Co., NJ.^1,2 She was buried at Presbyterian Churchyard, Union, NJ.¹
     Her married name was Scudder. As of circa 1735,her married name was Searing.

     Simon Searing was born circa 1716 at Connecticut Farms, Union Co., NJ.¹ He was the son of Simon Searing and Alse (????)¹ Simon Searing married Apphia Ball, daughter of Thomas Ball and Sarah Davis, circa 1735 at Elizabethtown, Union Co., NJ.^1,2 Simon Searing died in May 1760.¹
     Simon Searing was also known as Simeon.¹

     John Ball was born on 14 February 1745/46 at South Orange, Essex Co., NJ.¹ He was the son of Timothy Ball and Esther Bruen.¹ John Ball married Phebe Crane, daughter of Ezekiel Crane and Abigail Baldwin, on 28 November 1771 at NJ.¹ John Ball married Martha Howell, daughter of Gideon Howell and Sarah Gordon, on 16 January 1787.¹ John Ball married Sarah Howell, daughter of Gideon Howell and Sarah Gordon, on 19 February 1816.¹ John Ball died on 10 December 1838 at Parsippany, Morris Co., NJ, at age 92; supposedly buried in the family burying ground on the farm which he owned.^1,2 He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Morristown, Morris Co., NJ.³
     He served as an ensign in Captain Isaac Halseys Company Parsippany 1776. In 1832 he was placed on the pension roll for service as Ensign.¹

     Sarah Ball was born on 9 October 1735.¹ She was the daughter of Timothy Ball and Esther Bruen.¹ Sarah Ball died on 25 May 1770 at Maplewood, Essex Co., NJ, at age 34.¹

     Rachel Ball was born on 22 December 1750 at Orange, Essex Co., NJ.¹ She was the daughter of Timothy Ball and Esther Bruen.¹ Rachel Ball married Benjamin Crane, son of Benjamin Crane and Sarah (????).¹ Rachel Ball died after August 1824.¹
     Her married name was Crane.

     Mary Ball was born on 19 April 1753 at Orange, Essex Co., NJ.¹ She was the daughter of Timothy Ball and Esther Bruen.¹ Mary Ball married Obadiah Denham, son of James Denham and Abigaile Mason, on 8 July 1781 at Presbyterian Church, Providence, NJ.¹ Mary Ball died on 28 April 1818 at Denhamtown, Clermont Co., OH, at age 65.¹
     As of 8 July 1781,her married name was Denham.

     Abigaile Mason married James Denham.¹

     Phebe Crane was born on 25 December 1745 at Elizabeth, Essex Co., NJ.^1,2 She was the daughter of Ezekiel Crane and Abigail Baldwin.^1,2 Phebe Crane married John Ball, son of Timothy Ball and Esther Bruen, on 28 November 1771 at NJ.¹ Phebe Crane died on 22 May 1786 at Parsippany, Morris Co., NJ, at age 40.^1,2 She was buried at Ball Burying Ground, Parsippany, Morris Co., NJ.¹
     As of 28 November 1771,her married name was Ball.

     Joseph Salladay married Mary (????)¹

     Luther Ball was born on 13 May 1778 at Morris Co., NJ.¹ He was the son of John Ball and Phebe Crane.¹ Luther Ball married Elizabeth Fry.² Luther Ball died on 9 September 1827 at Lebanon, Warren Co., OH, at age 49.^1,2 He was buried at Unity Cemetery, Mason, Warren Co., OH.²

     Phebe Ball was born between 1773 and 1779 at Morris Co., NJ.¹ She was the daughter of John Ball and Phebe Crane.¹

     Martha Howell was born on 20 June 1756 at Troy Hills, Morris Co., NJ.¹ She was the daughter of Gideon Howell and Sarah Gordon.¹ Martha Howell married Asher Fairchild, son of Matthew Fairchild and Sarah Freeman, on 17 February 1773.¹ Martha Howell married John Ball, son of Timothy Ball and Esther Bruen, on 16 January 1787.¹ Martha Howell died on 14 February 1815 at NJ at age 58.¹ She was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Morristown, Morris Co., NJ.²
     As of 17 February 1773,her married name was Fairchild. As of 16 January 1787,her married name was Ball.

     John Ball was the son of David Ball and Joanna Watkins.¹
     John Ball married twice.¹

     Joanna Watkins married David Ball, son of Thomas Ball and Sarah Davis, say 1750.¹ Joanna Watkins died on 18 February 1776.¹

     Stephen Ball was born on 17 March 1750/51 at South Orange, Essex Co., NJ.¹ He was the son of David Ball and Joanna Watkins.¹ Stephen Ball married Elizabeth Ford.¹ Stephen Ball died on 29 January 1781 at Bergen Point, Bergen Co., NJ, at age 29.¹
     Phebe Smith, Staten Island, requests the Editor to publish two affidavits annexed to her letter. Her husband Job Smith was extradicted to New Jersey at the request of Governor Livingston and lodged in the Essex County gaol on 10 May 1784, then being charged with murdering Stephen Ball, late of Elizabeth Town, on Bergen Point in Bergen County, and also with robbing Joseph Baldwin and Zophar Lyon. After a strict investigation, his former prosecutors have found that Job Smith is innocent of the charge. David Ball certifies that while he heretofore had reason to believe that Mr. Job Smith was instrumental in the death of his son who was executed and murdered in 1781, he now believes him to be innocent. Zophar Lyon, Joseph Baldwin and Luther Baldwin, in the presence of John Hendricks Jr. and Baker Hendricks, certify that having fully investigated the charge against Job Smith for having robbed Zopher Lyon and Joseph Baldwin about Oct 1781, they believe him to be innocent.¹

     Abigail Ball was the daughter of David Ball and Joanna Watkins.¹

     Silas Ball was born circa 1740.¹ He was the son of Aaron Ball and Hannah Camp.¹ Silas Ball married Elizabeth Hart, daughter of Jeremiah Hart.¹ Silas Ball died on 1 May 1779 at Newark, Essex Co., NJ.²
     Comment by DGB: Clearly there is a problem between the 1779 death date for Silas and the census-based birth date for son John as c1781. Either the connection between John C. Ball and Silas Ball is incorrect or one of the two dates is incorrect. End of comment.

     Joseph Ball was born circa 1742 at Newark, Essex Co., NJ.¹ He was the son of Aaron Ball and Hannah Camp.¹ Joseph Ball married Rachel Tompkins, daughter of Eleazer Tomkins.¹ Joseph Ball married Phebe Hand, daughter of William Hand.¹ Joseph Ball died in 1808.¹
     He served in the English Army and assisted at the capture of Martinique. He was afterwards a soldier in the American Revolution and assisted at the capture of Stony Point under General Anthony Wayne. He served in the West Indies in the French War in Captain Amos Ogden's Rangers.¹

     Aaron Ball was born circa 1752.¹ He was the son of Aaron Ball and Hannah Camp.¹ Aaron Ball married Sarah Crowell.¹ Aaron Ball died circa 1802.¹
     He was in the company of Capt. Isaac Gillam during the Revolution circa 1780.¹
