John Mahan Steele was born on 6 August 1809 at TN.1 He was the son of John Steele and Catherine (????)2 John Mahan Steele married Acelia Holloman, daughter of Malachi Holloman and Martha Turner, circa 1826.2 John Mahan Steele married Elizabeth Wilson on 11 April 1859.1 John Mahan Steele died on 5 May 1862 at Randolph Co., IL, at age 52.2

Isaac Ball1

Isaac Ball was born on 16 February 1827 at near Canton, Fulton Co., IL; Comment by DGB: while his obituary shows a birth year of 1824, all of the censuses support that the year was more likely to have been 1827. End of comment.1,2 He was the son of Asel Franklin Ball and Rebecca Ellis.1 Isaac Ball married Margaret Emmaline Robbins, daughter of William Franklin Robbins and Melvina Myers, on 8 June 1856.1 Isaac Ball died on 24 February 1914 at Tualatin, Washington Co., OR, at age 87.1,3 He was buried at Winona Cemetery, Tualatin, Washington Co., OR.2
From an obituary in "The Evening Telegram": Tualatin Or. - Isaac Ball, a pioneer of 1852, and a veteran of the Indian wars of 1855 and 1856, died here on February 24, and was buried on Friday in the Winona cemetery, on his old home place, where he had resided since the war. Mr. Ball was born at Canton, Ill., Februrary 16, 1826, and in 1852 crossed the plains, locating in Oregon City, where he engaged in sawmill work, and later managed the ferry for Dr. John McLoughlin. In 1853 he went to Southern Oregon, where he engaged in mining, and the following Winter lived in Forbestown, Cal., on the Yuba River.
In the Fall of 1854 he returned to Oregon and took a donation land claim, where he lived the rest of his life except during the time he spent as a member of Company D, First Oregon Mounted Rifles, in the Indian war, during which time he participated in many of the threilling battles with the hostiles. Returning, he on June 6, 1856, married Miss Margaret Robbins, a native of Indiana, who had come to Oregon in 1852, and who survives. Ten children, of whom seven survive, were born to the couple. Mr. Ball served two terms as Clerk of Washington County, two terms as Commissioner, three years as Justice of the Peace and 30 years as School Clerk in his home district.
